Majlis Ecological Peace Corridors

Majlis Ecological Peace Corridors represent a future extension of our commitment to harmony between humanity and the natural world. Inspired by the success of transboundary protected areas such as the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park and the Korean Demilitarised Zone, the initiative envisions ecological corridors that bridge borders and foster peace through shared stewardship of the Earth.

These corridors would connect fragmented protected areas and biodiversity reserves, serving simultaneously as zones of ecological restoration and as sanctuaries of reconciliation. Whether along the Indo–Bhutan frontier, the Danube River Basin, or other regions of divided heritage, each corridor would stand as a living symbol of coexistence, spaces where the natural world softens boundaries and renews dialogue between peoples.

The Majlis feels well equipped to play a facilitating role in the creation of such corridors, acting as an intermediary or “good office” between states and institutions to promote cooperative conservation and cultural understanding.

One such vision is the establishment of an Ecological Peace Corridor within the buffer zone of Cyprus. There, in the land between north and south, a place could emerge for reflection, festivals, and prayer, a sanctuary where the earth itself becomes an instrument of peace, where gratitude is offered to those who came before, and where divisions are transformed into spaces of renewal.

Majlis Ecological Peace Corridors embody a simple but profound idea: that safeguarding creation can also safeguard peace. Through shared care for the land, nations may rediscover the common ground beneath their feet.
